Calibration of
hardness comparison plates

MPA-Hannover is your partner for any matter concerning hardness. We have been accredited since 1981 for the calibration of hardness comparison plates and are currently the world’s only calibration laboratory with DKD accreditation for Leeb hardness.
Hardness comparison plates are needed for the indirect testing and calibration of hardness testing machines and the endorsement of hardness scales. Specific hardness comparison plates are needed for every hardness scale (Brinell, Rockwell, Vickers, Knoop, Leeb).

As far as hardness comparison plates are concerned, MPA-Hannover collaborates with SSW Prüfsysteme + Service GmbH Weißberg as a sales partner and with Sintec Keramik GmbH as a manufacturer of hardness comparison plates. The plates that are manufactured by Sintec Keramik GmbH using the patented hot isostatic press procedure are characterised by having a special homogeneous joint and consistent hardness.

Each hardness comparison plate has its own individual DKD calibration certificate, which is valid for a period of 5 years.

The special demands that are made of the test surface mean that the plates must be carefully looked after and stored. We provide special storage boxes for this purpose.

Penetrating stamps, with their high precision requirements, are subject to continuous wear during the hardness test. They therefore have the same testing and calibration cycles as the hardness testing machinery in which they are used. Deviations in penetrating stamp geometry have different effects, which may even compete with each other. When the penetration stamp is being calibrated, a decision must be made as to whether it can continue to be used or needs to be replaced.
